How I Can Help
When Emily was sick, we asked questions every single day. We showed up. We pushed. The problem was never that we stopped asking. It was that we didn't know which questions existed.
When someone you love is facing serious illness, the system can feel overwhelming. I help families slow down, think clearly, and ask the right questions so they can move forward with confidence.
I speak from lived experience as a caregiver and patient advocate. I am not a medical professional, and nothing here replaces the guidance of your care team.
A Note on Words
When someone we love is facing cancer, we reach for the words we have. “Stay strong.” “Keep fighting.” “You’ve got this.” These words come from a place of pure love and there is no wrong in that.
But sometimes the bravest, most honest thing we can do is pause and consider what those words might feel like on the other side. For someone who is exhausted, who has done everything asked of them, who has shown up every single day, the word “fight” can whisper something unintended. That if they just tried harder, pushed more, fought stronger... they would win. And that if they don’t, if the cancer wins, somehow they didn’t do enough.
Emily did enough. She did more than enough. She did everything.
So when you don’t know what to say, and none of us ever really do, consider words that simply see the person in front of you. Words that say I am here, I love you, and none of this is your fault. Those words are always enough.
